Laban Sculptures
In 2022, I made the life changing discovery of Labanotation: a system for analysing and recording choreography in shapes and forms. This language was invented by Astro-Hungarian choreographer Rudolf Von Laban, who developed his notation on movements in the 1920s, similar to sheet/score music for dance. I started making a series of ceramic tiled sculptures using the systems of Labanotation, drawn to the idea of making colourful, minimalist sculptures that contain a secret code unlocking a movement or gesture.
